About
Dr Ryo Mizumoto grew up on the Gold Coast and completed his surgical training in Queensland, and is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He currently works at Caboolture Public and Private Hospitals as a General Surgeon and consults at Ramsay Suites in Caboolture and Bribie Island.
Dr Mizumoto has trained in a variety of tertiary and regional hospitals throughout Queensland. He had the privilege of training in various units, including Colorectal Surgery, Burns, Trauma, Acute General Surgery, Hepatobiliary and Upper GI Surgery, and Breast and Endocrine Surgery. He spent two years as an advanced trainee in subspecialty General Surgery, Education and Training at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.
He currently practices as a General Surgeon, with subspecialty interests in Advanced Laparoscopic surgery, Colorectal surgery, Breast and Thyroid surgery, hernia surgery and gallstone surgery including transcystic bile duct explorations. He is highly interested in newer advanced technologies that have gained world-wide traction by other renowned units that have recently become standard in large tertiary subspecialty centres, and Dr Mizumoto has learnt and introduced some of these to local units. He is one of the first to perform at Caboolture Hospital procedures such as Endoscopic Pilonidal Sinus Surgery, Indocyanine Green Flourescence Angiography and Cystoscopically Guided Ureteric Identification in laparoscopic colorectal surgery, and Nerve Integrity Monitoring during Thyroid Surgery, as well as developing his own modified retraction system for axillary surgery. Dr Mizumoto also recently performed the first laser guided localisation for the removal of a parathyroid tumour at Caboolture Hospital. He attributes his development as a specialist surgeon to the many great and accomplished Australian mentors he has trained with.
Dr Mizumoto has a strong commitment to teaching and research roles, including appointment as a Senior Lecturer with the University of Queensland and Intern Supervisor at Caboolture Hospital. Through these roles he leads the education and assessment of junior doctors rotating through the accredited intern program in General Surgery. He is also involved in breast and colorectal research and audits in the Surgical Department - which he believes is a fundamental aspect of best evidenced-based patient care.
